Just found a "Sony DW-Q28AB2 Quad Layer Black 16X x 16X DVD +/-R/RW oem" for sale on MicroDirect.

I've never heard anything of quad-layer DVD-Rs before and I can't find anything by googling. Does any1 else know anything about this?

It's a marketing ploy.
There isn't the level of technology today to accomodate 4 layers.
There is what's called a DVD-18 which is basically 2 DVD-9's placed back to back ontop of each other, but you've still only got 2 layers on one side, then you have to flip the disk to access the other two layers.

companies can make any type of technology to sell to consumers, but if there's nothing that will utilize it, it makes it kind of pointless...

sad but true.
