Im having trouble networking my two computers for file sharing and gaming. One of them is a celeron 466 and the other is a pentium 100, both running Win98 SE. They both have a network cards installed. The celeron 466's network card is connected to a cable modem. I noticed that when i took out the cable from the cable modem it fitted into the pentium 100, so I connected it into the pentium 100's network card (I can live without the internet while i play network games and transfer files). I restarted both computers, but when I looked in Network Neighborhood on each computer the other computer wouldnt show up. I had IPX/SPX and TCP/IP protocols installed on each computer and also Microsoft File and Printer Sharing. They are in the same workgroup. Also, IPX games would not work. Can someone please give me instructions on how to properly set up a two computer network?

Thanks.

To connect two computers together without a hub you need a crossover cable. To connect both computers to the internet you need to set up ICS or a similar program and put two nic's in one pc. Connect one to the modem and one to the other pc with a cross over cable.

crossover = green/white, green, orange/white, blue, blue/white, orange, brown/white, brown..

pc to to cable modem most likey straight through (both ends of cable the same)

pc to pc cross over.. ( one end needs to be crossed over).. switch pairs 1 and 3 and 2 and 6
