I was just wondering if i should change my 6cm Noisy Delta 38 to a 8cm Panaflo 5400rpm fan by using a 6cm to 8cm adapter.
which one will cool better???
i was thinking that it would be much more quiet
well has anyone ever tried changing their CAK38's HS to a 8cm Panaflo 5400rpm fan??
if so plz tell me the outcome
but i think it would be hotter but i'm not sure

I've not used that HS but I did use both 80mm and 92mm fans on my FOP32 and Taisol HS. As I undersatand it the cfm's can be higher but the delta fan may have a higher output pressure. In my case the 80mm fan was better than the original 60mm fan but it was not a delta 60mm fan.
Now I am water cooling so I only use large fans.

in a word, no this reduces pressure and your temps will increase by about 2 degrees celcus, if you can stand the noise do it, for ultimate preformance use a 80mm delta screamer (69 cfm)

That's what I found out during my testing, the pressure is lower. A high output 80mm or better yet 92mm fan worked well with out the same high pitch noise. I found that I could get close to the delta's performance though. I didn't use the same heatsink the CAK38, I used a FOP32 and a Taisol CGK742092. The Taisol was 80mm wide by 60mm so it fit an 80mm fan pretty good.
I like the idea of the 80mm delta. It delivers a higher pressure, as all delta fans seem to. I bet that even at a lower voltage it puts out just as much pressure and cfm as my other 80mm fans with probably close to the same amount of noise (as the 80mm high output sunon).
overclocker, what about trying two fans stacked? If you have two identical fans you can increase the pressure by stacking them. Just make sure they are the same or you will either over power one or restrict the other. I did this with two high output Panaflo 92mm fans ducted to my FOP32 and it worked well.

the delta has a dead spot where very little air gets to just where the core is...
the adapter may help this to be less of a dead spot so may be better for you.

Good point! I know the dead spot on a larger fan would be larger but maybe the fan reducing from 80mm to 60mm constricts the flow enough to 'fill in' the dead spot.
Also, I saw once where a person put a funnel type dapter on that had a sort of grid to straighten the flow. I think the idea was to 'straighten' the flow sort of like the flow out of a blower vs. a fan. I wonder if the grid would help the dead spot?

So should i change it with a Panaflo 5400rpm case fan??
well will it be less noisy than that delta 38 ?
and how bout the performance?
some say it'z better and some say itz worse
i just wanna know if it'z less noisy and cools better

I don't have any data on a Panaflo casefan that runs at 5400 rpm. From the info I do have, the delta 38 is about 46.5 dB-A of noise and a max output pressure 15.35 mmH2O. The fastest Panaflo 80mm I have data on is 3450 rpm, 46.9 cfm, model # FBA08A12U1A, pressure 4.8 mmH2O with dB-A of 38.2. The fastest 80mm Panaflo I have been able to buy is a model FBA08A12H1A, 2950 rpm, 39.6 cfm, pressure 3.78 mmH2O, 32 dB-A. Both of the 80mm fans are quiter than the delta but the pressure is also a lot lower which may mean less performance per cfm. The delta's make a lot of pressure that's why they kick-A** but it comes with the price of sound. Panaflo's just don't hit the delta's pressure, even the big ones. I have found that for me the cooling of an 80mm Panaflo cooled enough for me and the noise was much better. You may want to slow down the delta with a rheostat to make it a little quiter.
Hope this helps!

u may also consider placing the fan slightly off center on the heatsink so that air can get to where there would usually be a dead spot.

ok i'll try that!

the adapter may help this to be less of a dead spot so may be better for you. I have heard that there are flow issues with adapters. I can't provide a link but I read a review recently to that affect.

there are bigger and stronger fans(90mm) that uses AC power but....it's not really worth the time and effort to switch

Thx for the site
well i got one that's plastic too
it'z only like $6 U.S
well i'll give it a try!
!!tio!!

Just glue it using glue gun... or ... forgot
any wayz some one tell me that the bigger the fan, the more air it can takes.... so try it! btw... i got a panaflow!
