View Full Version : Is the celeron 900 considered a Cu-Mine cpu? and some other stuff too......

Just curious as since I just bought one, I am using an old asus p3b-f mobo with an asus brand socket 370 converter (yes it does do fc-ppga). At this time I have the sloket set on cu-mine mode (as opposed to joshua mode {?,is that supposed to be for celeron 1s} ).
My system posts fine, 'sept for one thing, just before windoze begins loading (the last dos screen that is shown that displays all yer drives, cache, 'n ****). it gives me a short message that says:
"Updated BIOS information incomplete, CPU ID 0000068a."
(or along those lines anyway)
Dose this have something to do with it being set on cu-mine mode?

Any help would be grately appreciated.

oh yeah, and another thing, how much over spec can you push pc-100 ram? I'd like to overclock my cpu (one of the reasons I got it) but do I risk some major probs if I run the ram to high? and what are some stable fsb speeds for the celery2 900? my mobo can do some odd ones like 105, 112.5 and 115....

Hi majesticdiviner, welcome to the Forum,
it seems to be a not perfect detection of your chip by the Bios, for the high multiplier (9x) or for the Stepping code (cD0), you can try only with a Bios upgrade if available, forget the slotket, is right. About the OC chance, well generally this chip can go at 133Mhz of Fsb (9x133=1.2Ghz!) but not with mem modules Pc100, you may only try rising the Fsb and check the stability of your system to know how far your module can go.
Remember that first of you must check your Cellie temps, never must be over 40-45 degree C @full load (100% load), and also consider that going with Fsb of 100 or 133Mhz the Pci freq. is on 33Mhz, in specs, but not in the middle of this values, you can got possible probs with Pci/Agp cards or Hd's.

I hope it helps you ;)

:eek: Thanks, another question, you say the cpu shouldn't go over 40-45C at 100%?
My system sits at those temps all the time, even gose up to 60C sometimes, I'm using a Thermal Tke golden orb for cooling, plus a chasis fan and a slot fan, is it possible the sloket is giving wrong temp reading for the cpu core?<I use MBM5 for heat monitoring.

Your temps are dangerous, forget the OC for the moment coz the prob is the heatsink that you're using now, Thermaltake's aren't good for the Overclock thing! better to go with another one and not using the crappy thermal pads, but with a thin layer of thermal paste on the Cpu Core.

I hope it helps you ;)

since when does gorb s**k?

i'm runnin cel (cB0) 633@979 with gorb... 100% stable :P
(27C idle/50C full load)
will add a few case fans soon, wanna hit 1GHz :)

Thaks again for the swift replay, I guess I know What I have to do now.....
Would you suggest an alpha fan, or something else?

Also, I'm looking for a new mobo, I need a good one for overclocking that will also support ddr ram, tualtian CPU and AGP 4x/pro, any suggestions? I need something solid, and don't mind to much about the cost (so aslong as it doesn't go over $280.00 CND).

50C at 100%? O/Cing that much!?!?

crap!

My old sytem (celeron 450) hit 80C once using one of these fans...<though I think that time it wasn't installed properly....
Maybe it's my mobo?

Since long long time!
but if you don't belive it, post a topic in the Cooling section for more opinion :D
About the case fans, remember that the air for the intake must be the same of the exhaust, considering the fans Cfm.

The best coolers now, for me, are the Thermalright SK6 and the Millenium Glaciator, much better than my Alpha PEP66, coz both made of copper, about the Mobo, I'm sorry but at the moment I know only the Asus Tusl2-C and the Msi i815EPT with classic mem modules :(

If you're not sure about your chip temps try to use an external thermal sensor in between the Cpu core & the Heatsink, I'm speaking of something like the picture that follow, and cost no more than 10-15$

An extra internal sensor would be a no-no then?<Since I could get one for like 8 bucks.. and my mobo can except an added sensor.

Plz, what do you wanna mean? My English isn't the best :)

uh, what I mean is that is it not a good idea to use an internal sensor, as opposed to the external one with the lcd<since most of the time they cost more then what i'd like to spend on testing equipment....

Ok, thanks :)
I've suggested an external thermal sensor only coz you asked me if your Mobo eventually can reports wrongly the temps, for me, they seems to be right, only high for the Cpu cooler :)
