ok, i have a aureal vortex 2 card from turtle beach. i might be caled montego ii or something. if you have the card or know about it youll maybe know what im tlkin about :-) anywaysi have a few problems with the card atm. during start up when windows makes noise its all garbled and stuff. also, i lose all sound within 5 minutes of playing a dvd using powerdvd. also lose sound when uploading, using anything from hotline to ftp. if im doing a large amount of download i lose sound too. i noticed that the sound card and network card are on the same irq, could that be the cause of the problems w/ sound when up/downloading? if so, what could cause the problems with the dvd playing? i also dont notice any problems when playing games or watching vids off my hard drive. ive tried both the drivers win2k supplies, as well as the most updated ones i could find. im runnin on an epox 8kha board right now, if that matters.

i would say yeah, give it a try, but ive reinstalled for other reasons numerous times and always still have the problem. a friend has the same problem with this card, so i think maybe its just lousy.

I just go the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and I think it's awesome. I haven't used it to play dvds yet though. think if you are having a problem like that you should contact there tech support. It's worth a shot.:)

I have ac97 onboard and it was fine, as soon as I went to cable modem all my sound is crackly, tried a SB128 pci and exactly same prob...
could be the amount of bandwidth cable is taking up from the pci bus.... just a thought
dont know if its relevant but worth thinking about
any advice greatly appreciated here aswell

the better the sound card the less your CPU, bus,etc has to work
just get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz so you dont have to get a new card for a LONG time=]
