Normally my computers access the internet over my Wireless network connecting to a Router, all is well. But for large file transfers between either my Computer and Xbox, or between computers, I connect the two in question with a crossover cable. When doing this however neither computer is able to access the internet, they seem to try and use the wired ethernet connection, which obviously doesnt work. How to set it up so that internet access is always through the wireless connection?

set the wireless as the default gateway and make sure DNS is working as intended.

easiest way might be to use only static IPs when for the NICs with the crossover cable. Leaving out the entries for default gateway and DNS

I do do that. I have computer a set as 192.168.1.1 and computer b as 192.168.1.1 subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for both, other fields blank.

I'll check the toher stuff in a bit, dinner now

Well first you do not want to set the IP's as the same on both.

If you can I would use regular cat5 and just plug both into the router. If this is not possible because of location then just follow Klingens advice.

That was a typo I meant to write 192.168.1.2 Whoops.

first thing your check the current set gateway with "route print" to see if this is the problem. Then you set it (with route.exe again) or by changing your settings in the network card properties

Also if you are using a linksys Wireless router then you should not use 192.168.1.1 for any of your computers because that is what the default addy is for the Wireless router.

Using a US Robotics ADSL ROuter and WIreless ROuter (2 Separate) things. Still havent seen where I can set wireless as default gateway.

EDIT: Here are the results of route print. Everything in order?
