XP question please read

I can not view my cd drives, I am trying to install my P1000 HP photosmart printer and I have a disc but I can not locate the cdrom drive to get the driver from the disc.

How can I be able to view my cd rom drives, am I missing something here. Using final build 2600 pro.

Well I have uninstalled XP till the software upgrades are available as my HP P1000 Photosmart printer will not work cause HP does will not have the XP drivers out till XP hits store shelves.

Also my burner and CD rom show up in device mgr but XP drivers will not allow them to be viewed in explorer. I have tried the drivers for Win2k from Yamaha site for my 8824ez burner and no luck.

I loved the system XP but I need to be able to access my cd drives to install drivers from a cd for certain hardware.

best way to do this so you can access your drives is

right click my computer

select properties

click on the hardware tab

click device manager

go to ide ata/atapi controllers

highlight primary ide

right click select properties

go to advanced settings

make transfer mode PIO Only

and do the same to the secondary controller

if your hard drive is on its own channel dont touch that but make sure all your ide dvd/cdrom/cdrw are set to pio only
