View Full Version : Wow, do I love my new 640? Of course!
Hey guys, I just got my P4 640 today after selling those 2x P4 560's that I was having problems with. At first I thought that it would be a downgrade in a sense because of a 400MHz defecit, but I was completely wrong. After just a few minutes of tweaking in the BIOS, I'm running at 4GHz, 16x250MHz. I just got done playing a vigorous 2 hours of Half-Life 2 with no problems, running at 1024x768 with all details high and 4xAA/4xAF. Temps went no higher than 52°c using a Zalman 7700cu HSF at load!
Too make it easier on my bandwidth and slower connections, I am giving the link to the folder that contains the benchmark screenshots:
Screenshots (http://busta.nbfl.net/benchmarks/)
This consists of shots from CPU-Z, SiSoft Sandra and SuperPi. I will add some 3D benchmarks a bit later.
*Note: The abnormally high core voltage that CPU-Z displays is a bug. The voltage is actually set to 1.45v in the BIOS.

can we get a cpu-z verified screenshot?
The Validation site is down right now, I will verify it when it's back up. ;)

I'm glad that they got it back up.
Nice overclock, and temps look really good, maybe you can push it a bit more :)

i see your running your memory in 3:4 instead of 1:1 have you noticed any gains from running your memory faster than your system bus?
glad to see your enjoying your 640 though i know i was impressed with mine too much as i ended up moving on to the 660s
Hamm3r: I'll leave it how it is for a bit until it sort of "burns-in" the current voltage and speed that I applied. Although, I would like to get some better cooling before pushing it, but my Zalman is doing a great job so far.
hawtrawkr: In the benchmarks I've done so far (mainly Sandra) I have seen increases in scores by running my RAM 3:4, aka DDR2-667MHz. My timings when running 1:1 (500MHz) are 3-2-2-4, whilst my timings at 3:4 (667MHz) are 4-3-3-10. Although the timings are a bit higher at 667MHz, it doesn't really seem to affect the real-time performance at all.

i havent run sandra i just noticed that running the memory faster didnt add anything to my superpi runs or any of my 3dmarks/aqumark benchs. thought maybe i was doing something wrong.
