I just bought Gigabyte 6600GT 128mb.

but now driver says that power supply isnt sufficent. I know that i should replace my 300W PSU, but i cannot go for as high as 550W type thing.. i just bought a damn card.
Right now.. its running at lowered clock speeds of 100/598 as compared to original specs of 500/1000. This is just not acceptable.
So, what is the minimum power supply i can use to run the card at full specs.

400W is what the min you can run it with.

Welcome to the forums!

It would help if you posted your system specs (i.e. all the major components in your system). Be detailed as possible so that we don't have to ask the usual redundant questions. That being said, 300 Watts is just not enough. If you are still running a Socket A based system, I would recommend at least 400W, something like a Fortron or Sparkle. Those are excellent powersupplies.

I'm running an OC'd Mobile Barton, an OC'd XFX 6600GT, two CD-ROM's and two hard-drives all on an Antec 330W PSU.

I don't think you *need* a 400W. Just make sure you get a good brand!

350 watt...and ive still got some head room left :p

system draws about 290 watts from the outlet at load, so giving a 70% efficiency rating for my PSU, that would be about 200 watts actually being used by system (i think thats right current x voltage right?)

Just to check,

Did you plug in the molex connector to the graphics card?

I've seen the same message on other machines and it was just leaving that plug off the card.

That's entirely possible - check that you plugged the card in (as dumb as it sounds, I've seen it happen many times).

If you actually do need a new PSU, then I would plunge for a 400w or more to leave yourself some room for future upgrades.

I would reccommend a Fortron 460w+

Good headroom

I agree, I'm also using a True 330 with a 6600GT and overclocked mobile no problems at all. Plenty of fans and drives to.

Quality brand...with the most watts you can afford.

i think they say "400 watt minimum" for the average guy out there running a piece of crap for a psu and doesn't know any better.
