Does it matter if Video card & onboard LAN share an IRQ?

Hi,
Can you tell me if it matters, if my PCI-E video card and the Onboard LAN share an IRQ, this is with WinXP sp2.They both share IRQ 16.
At the moment I don't need to use the LAN, so I disable it in Windows, but there may be a time when I do need to use it.

Thanks for any Info.

If it works, I wouldn't worry about it. But if your GFX card or LAN start messing up, then you know where to start looking :).

Binny.

In general IRQ sharing is OK, part of the PCI-Plug'n'Play design, but NIC's usually prefer a seperate IRQ. Since a share is not a conflict, the system will show everything to be fine (i.e. no red flags).

I've seen a few pc techs pulling there hair out over why a pc wont connect to the network, or keeps dropping connection. "Everythings OK! I checked device manager and its all OK!" It was usually caused by a share between vid card and NIC. To get round this I moved the NIC to a different PCI slot, but that may be a bit tricky for you!

Don't worry about it until its a problem for you. You never know - it might never be one!!! If it is you can try to reassign it a different IRQ.

Hope this helps.
