I think its about time I got my father online, he has learned about as much as you can learn about pc's without an active internet connection. Problem is, he lives constantly on the move(his work hauls him around) but his boss always has internet and is always about 100ft away. I figure the easiest option would be to get him a wireless router and card, and have him give the router to his boss as a present :santa:. I am VERY happy with my D-Link 524, and the price is right, so I think I'll go with that, but what card? I'd prefer something under $30, unless it will give a rather dramatic increase in range. I'd also prefer something with a detachable antenna, so if need be I can make/buy a cantenna. What do you suggest?
The Buffalo Tech stuff has a huge advantage over D-Link, Netgear, and Linksys in range, speed, and connectivity. I use Buffalo at home and for all my clients after years with the others and there is no comparrison.
You can buy the combo kit with a router and an access point, model WRB2-G54K (http://froogle.google.com/froogle_url?q=http://www.provantage.com/buy-7BFLO01P-buffalo-technology-wireless-networking-airstation-54mbps-router-repeater-kit-w-aoss-802-11b-wrb2-g54k-shopping.htm&fr=ADCo-paeJYhMtApMmjC4atQSuLAU1AMdQN9x7e5QsI2C5yVmIuNo58A AAAAAAAAAAA) for $106 at Provantage.com.
The access point will be able to support either laptop or PC for wireless connection to the router. Furthermore, multiple computers can be connect wirelessly by inserting a switch off of the access point.
I suggest this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124115) wireless card. I bought a few of them last year for my computers and they work well. The antenna is detachable on this card as well. :p

The buffalo is a bit pricey, thats more like something I would get for myself. He is looking for something cheap... so you recomend the linksys card over a d-link one?

I like the linksys stuff....its now owned by Cisco. Although I have used Dlink and never had a problem.
