the sk6 should give much better than that!

Have you got some arctic silvers 2 on there??

Is the heatsink on the right way round?? These are the main two culprits..

Also check that the heatsink is making a firm contact to the cpu core..

Case Cooling!

What kind of case cooling have you got??

yeah m8 i have some as2 on the processors core the hsf looks like its on correctly and the core seems to be pressed against the hsf

case cooling: i have 2 ys-tech 80mm fans one at the front of the system taking air in and one at the back blowing it out again i also have a pci blow fan the case temp is around 25c

I was hopeing to start overclocking this system but with these temps theres no way I am going to try it

the chip maybe faulty failing that there is a lip in the heatsni that is offset from the rest of the flat area that should be located of the white processor slot where it says socket xxx (462 for athon/duron).

Is that fan on your Heat Sink the 9k rpm one? You'll know it by the sound. I had purchased 2 sk6 for my Dual Morgan computer. These had the fast Delta fan. These fans were so loud and spun so fast they vibrated my case to the point I could not stand to be in the same room with the computer.

I was getting about 50 to 51c on each cpu with this setup. I was afraid to replace the fans but decided to give it a try and replaced them with some 4500 rpm fans. I was very surprised to see my temps go down to 46 to 45c on each cpu. I did not change anything else. I didn't re attach the HS to the cpu as I just took off the clips and put on the new fan with the same clips. I didn't change anything else.

Frankly, I am baffled as to why my temps went down so much. Maybe it is because they were creating so much airflow it messed up the clean air getting into the system *shrug*.

Anyways, if you have that fast loud fan try a slower one it might work. :)

EDIT: They wer both under full load running the folding@home client.
