Ok, my dad plays online games quite a lot. Mainly City of Heroes, and Guild wars and such.

He has an AMD XP 1800+.
And he has 768 megs of Ram.

Basicly, he is wondering which he should upgrade to help his gaming more.

will he honestly notice a difference in his games if he updates his CPU?

or will He get a better improvement by hitting or going past the 1 gig mark on ram?

Oh, he has a GeForce 6800. While its not the ultra or anything, It can handle what he wants to do. And i doubt paying a ton of money on a even newer video card isn't exactly what he wishes to do.

So which would be the best option? Better CPU, or better RAM?

And don't say go to a 64 bit system. That would require a new mobo, CPU, and possibly a New Video card ( for PCI-E based Mobo's ).

honestly, i'm not 100% sure which would give him the most performance boost. Is 768 megs enough For his gaming? Or Would he benifit more from a better Processor?

CPU. A GF6800 is not utilized fully with a XP1800, especially if the CPU isn't overclocked.

A 6800 isn't even fully utilized on a low end Athlon64(in most games anyway).
