Well, I started with my PC mods about a year ago. Never completed everything because: I ran out of time, and ran out ideas, and ran into the laziness factor.

Well, I've solved 2 out of those 3 which was good enough to get my butt back in gear. I'm modding like crazy and will try to find my original project log based mods. For now, this is what I spent my weekend doing. Bear in mind I haven't drawn a THING in about 15 years let alone any painting.

How I did it. First off, I used paint stripper to remove the original paint. 15 minute soak and scraped most of it off. Then sanded it down and got it ready for spray painting. Used Rustoleum Auto Primer etching paint. Then Rustoleum Metalic Blue paint.

Now, I grabbed the American Accents Crackle effects black top coat can. The can "recommends" you use only their base coats, but what they don't tell you is that you can save a few bucks and use ANY paint as a base coat. They all work just fine. Then Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel was last.

That all got the black with blue lightning background.

Now the fun part was drawing what I want. I've been loving the anime series Bleach and figured I'd do something along that.

I used masking tape to completely cover the side panel so I could free hand draw and make as many mistakes as I needed. I'm not as good as I used to be for this kind of stuff so I can't just freehand the paint straight on.

After get the drawing how I liked, I sectioned it up and used an exacto knife to cut just deep enough into the tape to peel off a section of the picture for painting. This saved me on my paints and it made everything easier in the long run. Kind of like a home made paint by numbers project. After everything was painted, I gave it all another couple coats of the Clear Enamel.

The paints used for the picture were the cheapest Acryllics I could find at Hobby Lobby. 68 cents a bottle "Folk Art" paints. I also picked up a few of the cheapest brushes I could find too. Only picked up white, black, blue, red, yellow, and orange. Then mixed what I needed to get the gradients of color I wanted.

Excuse any bluriness from the pictures I took. I also managed to paint and sand, and refinish a ton of other stuff for my computer but I'll wait to post those pics later.

Here some more pics.

I have full size pictures, just didn't want to bother with putting them on my personal webspace at this moment. Just shrunk down what I had for now so I could upload them directly to the boards.

Looks impresive! Did you clear coat over the final job or anything to protect it though?

DocGiggs

Yep,as I stated above, used the same Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel over the final paint job. That's the last picture and the flash makes it look al shiny. Took me a few tries with the camera to make the shot not look bright white everywhere in the picture once the clear coat was on. It looks much better in real life then it does in the picture (doesn't it always?).

Stuff I've done.

Painted my Thermaltake Lanfire VM2000a chassis to that metal blue.
Painted my Turbo Cool P&C PSU 510 to the same color, cables and all.
Painted my motherboard to that color too. Just need to remove the taped off areas which is harder then it looks. I thought putting the tape on was hard.
Removed the old Thermaltake Clear Side panel acryllic pane. Bought new one from Lowes. Will do an etching drawing on that side of Rukia, the opposite anime character in the show.
Painted all the outside panels of the case to that blue lightning on black effect.
Added a small 7" LCD screen to the front.
Cut out a blowhole for my 170mm fan, which I still need to paint.

Soon I just have to worry about the wiring and be done, YAY!

I can't do either very well. I feel out of the artistic talent tree as a small child and missed every branch on the way down. :p

Apparently you FEEL out of the spelling tree too! LOL-<Foghorn-Leghorn> joke son, joke :p </Foghorn-Leghorn>

That is some amazing artistry! I can't wait to see the complete project.

Slake runs off to brush up on spelling, so as to avoid retribution from the dreaded Electron Chaser :burn:

WOW that looks sick.

Post pics of Rukia after you paint that other side panel.

Actually, know what would be sick?

If you have Rukia on the left, facing the center of the panel, Ichigo on the right, facing center, a Hollow on the top-center, and then random people under the hollow (Orihime etc) and then Kon runnin at the bottom right haha.

thats a sick paintjob, keep it up

Looks pretty cool, but excuse me for asking 2 (most likely) suupid questions.

1) The charcter on the case, is he called Bleach or is that the name of the show?

2) What in the world do upi have peacocks in your yard for?

^^^ Answers to up above.

1) The character is called Ichigo. The show is called Bleach.

2) You see, when you live in a really nice rural neighborhood in southern Texas outside San Antonio, your neighbors can have wierd pets. That, and they let them roam. So the neighbors have a flock of Peacocks and Guinea Hens. Not to mention other stuff that isn't as colorful or fun.

Thanks, One one of these days I will get adventerous enough to try and find some anime that I will like. I guess i'm just lazy because I still stick to the americanized ones (Starblazers, Robotech, Battle of the Planets).

Do you have plans to complete the rest of the case, or are you going to stap with the side and the other pieces mentioned.

And the other side, Well it sure seems like people here in Texas keep strange animals. I have know people with skunks, monkeys, and other assorted exotics. The most unusual animals we have are the passel of Rats that my wife keeps.

If you wanna learn bout bleach, check out Bleach 7 (http://bleach7.com/)... has most of the manga, and lots of background on the anime..

btw, I reccommend you get english subbed anime, no dubbing. Looks and sounds better (the characters have the right voice)... its a great anime.

After showing my work to some friends and talking with them, along with the support I've received online, I've been encouraged to try and turn this into a side hobby of case painting with acryllics :) Friend is already wanting me to paint some Naruto theme on the side of his now. Mayhap I could do this for a little extra cash on the side. Can't turn it into a real business because I don't have THAT kind of time or energy for the effort but I might just go ahead and buy a few case panel sides for different common cases. Which cases seem to be the most popular? Tsunami? Chenming? Friend was saying I could probably sell a completed one for a hundred bucks or two. Hrmmm...

Oh, incidently; I think you should look into excercising your tallent a little by doing more =D. there are a LOT of people out there who would look at your side and say, holy ****, i want that on my case =O. and you better belive they are willing to pay for it.
I dabble in a little graphic design work myself, not much but somthing as simple as a splash screen for a it company got me like $360 cdn and it took me about two and a half hours to do.
Spend a couple hours drawing anime on somone's side panel for liek.. $50-$100 and you have yourself a lucrative business that you can do under the table ^^. tax free.

Definatly, look into it. if you have interest and you enjoy the work, its worth while ^^.
what other anime do you like man? Im quite the anime lover myself.

yah, I removed a few pics to conserve bandwith, I should edit out the links :)..

The texturing came from the spray paint behin the acrylic. I used the American Accents Crackle Effect spray paint over normal Rustomleum Metallic Blue spray paint.

Very nice work.

It's a pretty good painting just by itself, and the crackle effect really sets it off. I have not seen the anime you refered to, so I don't know. Was the composition of the image you own? I love the reflection in the sword idea. Either way it is so well done.

And thanks for the motivation, btw. As I am about to get laid off from work, I will have some spare time. I can finally put some effort into some mod ideas that I have been sketching.

Mod on!

Ciffer
06-17-05, 03:04 AM
any reason you wanted a crackle effect? all the painting i have ever done i've tried to avoid the crackle and get as much of a mirror finish as possible.
