Every time I try to run 3DMark2001 my machine freezes. I am currently running win2K but plan on building a dual boot when I get time. I am not sure what is going on I loaded the latest VIA 4 in 1 (ver. 4.33) drivers, I am not sure what AGP driver to use, I loaded the one in the 4in1. I saw someone on this board suggest using the AMD driver, but I have read other articles that say to use the VIA driver. I loaded the VIA driver because I couldn't find the AMD driver (I didnt look that hard though). I am running ATI driver 5.13.01.3102, DirectX 8, and the DirectX for TV capture. I have tried different ram, bios, video settings with the same results. After upgrading the 4in1 I can now get to the 4th scene of the benchmark before it freezes, where before it would freeze after a few seconds. You guys are always full of good suggestions so give me whatever you have. See sig for hardware.

I have had the same problem for weeks. I even did a format and re-installed all the driver updates and it still either froze, or crashed to desktop. After trying all day yesterday, it finally went all the way through. Lots of people have been having the same problem and reporting it on http://gamershq.madonion.com/

I think I may have found some hope. There is a registry entry I found at microsoft.com and it is also refrenced at AMD.

I am attatching the reg file. I am not at home so i will try it tonight and see if it helps. You may want to look this up at microsoft because they said it may have ill effects on other programs.

When 3dMark2001 freezes on your pc, it is normally a sign of instability. This is normally more to power problems than overclock problems.

On my rig, I KNOW I can overclock my gfx card more than what it is at, but my rail scores drop below useable and freeze 3dmk2k1. This is why I stay at a lower speed.

Hopefully, if I get out of debt with the next pay check I will buy an Enermax 450W PSU. Then I will get some really decent clock speeds from my 1.4Ghz and GF3.

You system is freezing because your overclocked. For some reason d3d is extremely sensitive to overclocking. I have several systems that are 100% stable with all programs except ones that use d3d (like 3dsm) I would bet almost anything that if you clocked your system down the test would not freeze.

Actually I have tried at normal clock, under clocked, different ram settings, ect. I got the best results with optimal ram settings (clock speed didnt seem to matter) after I updated the 4in1 which is why I was assuming a driver issue. I have only tried 2 different radeon drivers but they didnt seem to make that much difference eather.
The PSU suggestion sounds possable though.
