This may belong in General Discussion or something but I think it also applies to folding so...
Just an FYI to everyone since may of us probably have PCs that we do not ave monitors for.
There is a FREE program out there called VNC that will allow you to remote control a computer over a network. It is cross platform compatible and also has a JAVA client for use in a web browser.
It currently works only over TCP/IP, but that sould work for controlling folding machines over a home network or something like that.
Here is the link for it www.uk.research.att.com/vnc (http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/) .
Also be sure to check out all the add-ons and such for it. There are some pretty cool things out there.

The program works great. I use it to manage a couple of my folding machines that aren't being used by employees right now. I didn't notice the plug-ins. I'll have to go and check that out.
Thanks for the post!
Thanks. That's a good link. Tried it a while ago. I had a little trouble for some reason, but it is interesting and I might try it again.

Now this is cool! Combine VNC with kdfold (http://www.plasticstudios.org/robsdelphipage.html) and I can monitor or even restart my folders from work! Thanks, Dunga Bee! If you're not using kdfold, check it out. You can monitor all the folders on your network from one central computer. I wish I could remember who first posted this link so I could give him credit, but I use it all the time. Thanks!
It was me, but the person that really deserves thanks is Corrupting Enterprises from [H]ardOCP who wrote it. I love this program. It's not as flashy as EM but it's so good at monitoring over the LAN that nothing else matters. Just dl'd the latest update since there were a couple of small issues with the version I had been using. Hopefully the newer one fixed it. :D

I used VNC to work on several servers at my internship this last summer - it's great!! I got to work on several computers at once w/o leaving my cubicle. ( :) I'm Lazy  )
VNC is also available from www.download.com

OH yeah. Not sure if you tried yet, but I took one of the team logo's for EM, copied and pasted into the same folder under logo.jpg and it shows the team logo instead of the Plastic Studio's logo.

ploaf- Thanks for sharing that little gem. I haven't heard anyone else mention it, and it's really great for monitoring multiple clients. I'm glad to be able to thank you personally. I too pasted in the team logo. I haven't downloaded the update yet since the 1.1 version suits my needs fine.

Where are the team logos? Hmmm time to dig around. I have been looking at this plasticstudios for too long ;).
There were a few but this is the one that I've been using
Darn! Can't seem to get around the company firewall to run VNC at work. (I work for a large, paranoid telecommunications company). Oh, well. It's still a cool program.
OK. First of all thanks for praising this. This is a great way to administer multiple machines. Anyway. I finally go VNC to work on one machine. The problem was with the display drivers. Luckily all my folding machines have the same vid card so it should be easy to get them all going.
Now a question- Does adding RAM to the host machines help speed this up at all? It's horribly slow. Much better than dragging the monitor throughout the house, but still slow.

I am not sure about RAM helping the speed, but I do notice a HUGE difference in speed when connecting to my P180 vs. my AMD 1.4. Both are on a 100 switch, but that CPU speed difference is so vast I would not guess that it is just the extra RAM making it faster.
Thanks Dunga Bee. I have everything set up via DHCP and that slows it down some, besides this is similar to running in emulation mode so it makes sense that it's kind of slow. Anyway. I'll take it like it is. :D Was going to go with a kvm but this is a lot cheaper. Only having trouble with one machine and I think the HD size is the problem. There's only 14 MB of space left on the hd. Then again it could be that I made a mistake setting it up, but it's 1:30am and I'm tired. I'll have a switch soon enough that will allow me to control that one too, so this is all good. Time for bed. ;) I think that this is going to be one of my favorite programs.
I set it up this morning on my Dual BP6 and noticed just a little bit of sluggish-ness, but that was connecting to it with a 366, when I tried with my 1GHz Duron with 512 of ram it sped up.
Box speed depends I guess. =)
J - good find =)

I like it, where can I find it? Is it on the overclockers folding site?
That's the one I dl'd from the forum. Just save the image to your hd from the link. It's not exactly the right size since it was made for EM, but it works. Kind of fuzzy in kdfold though. I looked but couldn't remember where I stored the others that were posted here, but there were a few. If I can figure out how I might be able to get it looking better at the right size, just ot too good with graphics editors. Always was a bad artist. ;)
Not sure if there are any posted at the team site. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
<edit>OK. I checked the team site and couldn't find anything. I suppose the logo at the top of the page there could be used. I also found the original thread where the current logo was posted and it was made by WyrmMaster(thanks):D

Also did not find the other logos. Guess I was wrong. :( </edit>
OK. I tried but it came out worse than the one that is just stretched out by the client. One day I'll learn how to use that software. ;)
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Don't look at me. I stink at graphics too. :(
an enlargement you can try... compliments of my wife. It is a liitle "soft" around the edges.
try again...
this one is 30% larger. I also have a 125% and a 133%. If anyone wants them, let me know and I'll post them.
That's much cleaner. Thanks!!
I have a program kind of similar to VMC, called BO2k. This program is suppose to be used for managing machines over LAN, but has been used malicously so many virus programs will detect it. I think BO2k is open source (cant remember) but there are many plug ins for it. You can get a plugin called bo peep that lets you take control of the remote client. I have the program at home but have not used it yet as I wanted to read the documentation on it first.
Thanks Gonzo. This could be worth checking out as well.
