Need some help with Rome: Total War

Okay the question itself is pretty simple but i've tried all my viable options and i can't solve it.

How to defy a huge army of Egyptian chariot archers? - as in, 8 or more units

- Tried spearmen, they get shot from a distance
- Tried heavy infantry, same thing, plus get crushed
- Tried heavy and light cavalry, they get scared and run away
- Tried archers, they get crushed

Anyone got an idea? they are sooo annoying.

I have to face them some time. The only way to safely get a shot at them would be in case they siege a city i posess but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I have four divisions of Archer Auxilia with 8 - 9 experience and the best armour and weaponry available, still they get crushed like it's nothing :(

Egyptian calvary is damn near unstopable, thats why I play with them :) (on very hard, very hard of course!)

But first you need archers WITH FIRE. This will help scare the horses, but really the best way is you send in a crappy calvary unit to get slaughtered while your heavy calvary flanks them simutaneously. Oh and make sure you use the wedge formation. Pretty much the best way is to sandwich them so they cant escape.

What faction are you? Roman? Their higher up cavalry are awsome too, should be able to go toe to toe at least...

Have you attacked the britons yet? They have HORDES of cavalry archers, but they're not as good as they egyptians so it's not that hard to slaughter'em.
