Essentially, I'll be building a new system soon. Its gunna be running a p4 640 in an Abit AL8 (945p). I've been looking at XMS 5400, but I'd like to spend under 200 if at all possible. I would like it to run 240-250 1:1.

I'd recommend OCZ Enhanced Bandwith 2x512mb pc2-4200. It runs at 3-2-2-8 which is probably better than the corsair and also a bit cheaper. If not, then I'd suggest the OCZ 2x512mb pc2-5400. Its 169 at Newegg and is virtually the same as the corsair. I have some of the pc2-5400 myself and it OCs wonderfully. Its running at 381 in a 3:4 ratio. (It ran fine at 286 1:1). All of this was at the default 4-4-4-8 timing. Not to mention that the OCZ has a lifetime warranty up to 2.2v +/-5%.

Unfortunately, both are out of stock at newegg, but you can probably find them elsewhere. Here are some links anyways

Get the OCZ EB Platinum rev. 2 LE, that's what I reccommend as it's closer to 200.00 then the Corsair 5400UL. The Corsair looks like it can achieve a little bit higher speeds, but considering the OCZ is PC-4200 rated, it's almost just as good. I'm running my OCZ EB at DDR2-667 3-2-2-8 with 2.1v. :)

I am considering getting myself some of the Corsair-5400UL in a few weeks, I want to see what other people have to say about it first. I believe DDR2-1066 was achieved with the Corsair 5400UL.

Here is my OCZ EB rev 2 PC2-4200 screenshot at DDR2-700 using 3-2-2-8.

I also have a dual channel RAM kit (2X512 single-sided) of Kingston HyperX PC2-5400 (DDR2).

Tested it at the rated speed and it did 334.2 MHz (DDR2-668) with 4-4-4-10 timings at the default 1.8v. Using the SPD timing of 4-4-4-12 and default 1.8v I pushed it up to about DDR2-700 before it started wanting more voltage.

Next, I tried tight DDR2 timings of 3-3-3-8 at 1.9v and was able to do a stable 291.6 FSB (that's dang good).

Finally, I pushed the limits of this RAM for a max screenshot at just 2.0v with relaxed timings (not 100% stable though).

Here is my OCZ EB Platinum Rev.2 LE PC2-4200 at DDR2-667 3-2-2-8 w\2.0v, 200FSB 3:5 ratio. I run this 24/7 with my CPU at default(3.4ghz) because 4.046ghz just makes my room too damn hot to bare at this time of the year.

Could it reach DDR2-700??? Probably but I haven't tried yet!. This is probably the best memory I've ever had but I want to get my hands on some of that Corsair 5400UL.......
