So I'm going to be moving to my new house and going to be getting high speed interent thru MediaCom anyways they are 3mb dowload speeed. My question is will this be fast enough to hook up all three of my computers thru a router and play online simotaniously with a realitively low ping rate?
If not are there any tweaks I can do to make it faster or any other services out their like DSL that could help in my situation?
My router is the D-link gaming router 4300 if that makes a difference.

It depends how much bandwith each gaming session needs/wants mainly. Also not your download rate of 3MBps is the bottleneck but your upload rate which will be a lot slower than that. And of course how good your router is. It being a consumer router, chances are it's simply crap: it might work for 1 gaming connection, but $Deity knows if it can handle 3 without a hiccup. It might, or it might not. Btw: that high priced QoS on that router is probably not designed for 3 simultaneous gaming connections but only a single one, making it less than useful I guess.
Typical tweaks to lower latency (but also lowering throughput) is to set a lower MTU from the usual 1500 or 1492
wow, i guess i have acheived the impossible w/ 256/256 DSL :D 3 people playing UT2K4 and 1 person on xbox live, pings are ~100-170ms 3 wireless 1 wired. isn't a uber expensive router either. but if you had to DL a map you had to wait awhile....
3 cpu gaming is possbile, its done all the time. also, when i go to my friends house, whom has cable that is 768/386 (something like that) we all get sub 100ms pings w/ 2 wireless and 1 wired. we were all playing CS for awhile, then moved to AA, then play UT for awhile, the entire time we had sub 100ms pings. so its not too hard to have 3 computers gaming on one internet line, just make sure your connection has a decnet upload to support more than 1 person.

I don't think you will have a problem. Maybe if you all are using teamspeak, though.

I'm not sure what the upload speed is. It's the only cable internet provider in the area. Is there a DSL company I could go thru that has faster connection than this, my phone provider will be quest. Thanks guys, I'm just trying to figure out what is the best service before I move into my place and find out it might not be fast enough.

It ought to be fast enough. Games dont use huge ammounts of bandwisth, they just need it to be constant.
you should stick with the cable internet. i doubt the DSL is any cheaper or faster. you will more than likely get less download bandwidth which is bad if you need to DL a map or anything like that.

sounds good I'll let you know how it goes in a few weeks.

My friend has Charter Cable. 4 of us will all play Halo online, sometimes in seperate games, and we experience little to no lag. Same when we play Tribes II and Guild Wars.
