[speculation]because the small version doesnt perform very well and they wanted to improve its C/W.[/speculation]

there are heat pipes in the towering part I guess

Yes maby but its watercooled and the fins don't make contact with the base plate, where the bottom of the heatpipe would be. My only idea is that that is more cooling for the heatpipe. However, that should not be necessary as you are watercooling and those fins would be of minimal use becuase watercooling typically extreemly recuduces airflow around the device(s) to be cooled.

its interesting but doesnt have much potential, cause as WC is becoming more mainstream what ever the next mildly extreme cooling method would have to produce sub ambient temps something this wouldnt be able to achieve
