View Full Version : Don't kill me...

...but I need to stop folding on this pc. It just can't handle the full loads until I can get some better cooling sorted out (temps hitting over 70 very fast). However, I have no idea how to stop folding starting up each time I boot - I tried the start/stop service thing, but that only stops it from running on the current boot. Anyone know how to do this?
Any help would be appreciated, and I'm sorry if it#s mentioned somewhere really obvious and I've just missed it.
I would consider overheating a viable reason to (temporarily) stop folding.
No probs m8 :thup: sort it out neatly, then strike back!
Goto:
start -> run -> msconfig -> services
disable FAH there and in the boot tab, and it won't start along with windows anymore.

Thanks a lot, that sorted me out :-)

Alot of ways but if you don't have a cool room it makes it harder.Get an AC in that room if possible.

Take it apart, clean the fans, clean the exhausts, cut away grilles, duct fresh air, buy some extra fans (that costs money tho)
legio possibilities :)

moving air, and make sure its cool. Stick it over an AC vent or something.
As an alternative to stopping while you sort out your cooling issues, you can throttle folding back to 80 or 90 percent and temps will drop quite a bit. I do this on some of my stock borgs that are small form factor or are in a warmer climate to keep the cooling fans from spinning at full speed. Then once you get better cooling you can turn it back up.

I found 70% to get the best results while not losing to much power. 90% doesn't really do anything for temps.

i'd say 70% is the cutoff on Folding.... not quite as fast as 100%... but not so slow as to make it not nearly worth it.

Add intake and exhaust fans, all you need to do is let the case "breath" better more cold air in more hot air out. Second would be to cool the four things that make you crash, cpu,gpu,ram,MOSFETs and your sig should run strong. Fans are cheap enough anyway. If you reall want to just rip the side of your case off and have a room fan blowing in their. I did that to my HP in order to game, thankfully I got rid of that piece of junk.
