I currently have a Seagate ST3200822A installed as my root (/) drive. I just got a Western Digital WD1200JD. Would I get much increased performance if I make that my root drive? If so, how do I copy all my data onto my SATA disk without having to reinstall? I have spent hours tweaking the system and I don't want to do it again.
BTW, specs of my system are in my sig.

No, I don't think you'll see much of a difference. If you moved your swap over to the new drive you might see some better performance. Those two drives are close enough in performance to not see a noticable difference on the desktop. Raptor, maybe, but not a couple 7200RPM's.
