Is it possible without a NEO? I heard it was a WHILE ago but most of the things I read mention using the NEO. Just wondering. Thanks.

Ehh, what's a 'NEO'? Do you mean a 'slotket' = FC-PGA to Slot1 converter card?

no, i mean the NEO! You can put an FCPGA cpu on it and plug it into a PPGA slot...

Ok...this is where you're a bit confusing here, Joe.... PPGA is a S370 (Socket 370) format, whereas "slot" infers SECC, or a "slot 1"...which is a different animal altogether.
A bit more info is required to really be able to give you a difinite answer here... Are you looking to mount a Coppermine FC-PGA chip into an older PPGA (both s370) mobo, or to a SECC (slot 1) mobo??
It's times like this where terminology trips up the best of us...lol

sorry, when i said PPGA slot i didnt think people would get so confused. okay, PPGA SOCKET. besides, you all should know BM6 are PPGA boards... or not. anyway, abit said they added support for 600mhz celerons on the board, and some people said that we were able to use FCPGA chips on the PPGA boards. how, i'm not sure. BUT all of the stuff i've read has been written about using the neo FCPGA -> PPGA converter. so i'm just not sure.
I'm trying to find anywhere at Abit's website stating this mobo now has support for the Coppermines....I can't.
Where did you read this? Could you post a link to the page??
If your mobo is rev 1.03 (easy way to tell is it has pink/green ports @ the back) and your CPU is ca2 or cb0 stepping it will work without the NEO-370. If it's cc0 tho, you have no chance with or without a NEO. If the mobo is older than rev 1.03 then you may need the NEO to get it to work.

thanks man! you're really knowledgeable. it helped.
it looks like i'll need a neo cuz i don't see any colors back there.
no big deal.
the problem is what happens if a CC0 lands on my hands :(
maybe i should just try to take a 533 PPGA to 800? hm.
If a cC0 lands in your hands, you get a new mobo, that'll support it...=)
Or send it to me, I'll tell you how well it overclocks. :D
j/k

heh heh...
the PROBLEM is that this is supposed to be more cost-effective than buying a new mobo/cpu combo...
maybe i go with the 533 idea and try to OC it.

Don't do that, because you won't reach 800. The 533 was the final in the Cel1 line, you would probably o/c not much more than 600(all based on avgs).
533A was a great overclocker, but it's fc-pga.
True if the 533 is PPGA, 600ish tops, but FC-PGA will be fine (might need the neo) as it'll deffo be no newer than cb0 :)
