well this page has some links for tutorials and stuff, havent used it myself, so dont know how much help it will be to you...
C++ Tutorials (http://cyberdiem.com/vin/learn.html)
I would say buy a book. I have learned the basics of Java and C from books. The best thing would to be to go to a short course at evening school or something
Any specific suggestions on books? Or anything I should look for in general?
And taking the course is pretty much out of question unless they give them out for free...

Best bet would be to go to a local college or university and ask for a book at their book store. The majority of the books on programming at "Borders", "Barnes and Noble" are references which teach to the nitty gritty of that specific language. If youre looking for a book that will teach you the fundamentals of programming using a certain language then your best bet would be the book store.
Check out your local bookstore (Waterstones/James Thin are best in UK). Look for a book that comes with a compiler/interpreter/etc on a CD. If you are programming for Linux then there is probably a free one with your distro.

I'm using the c++ book called " A First Book of C++ : From Here To There ", by Gary J. Bronson, second edition.
Its realy good as I knew nothing from July, but now I know a fair bit and I haven't even been studdying it that much. If its available over there then its worth having... :D
