View Full Version : I'm Thinking Windows 2000 isn't all That Great Anymore

1. I got two BSOD's upon installation. *Solved with new Drivers

The first one was after trying to run a High Polygon Test with 8 Lights in 3DMark 2000. The second was after trying to run UT for the first time. In both cases, it said something about atidrv.dll causing a protection error. I'm in the process of downloading the 3271 Beta Drivers to see if it gets corrected.

2. F@H can no longer connect to the internet automatically.

There doesn't seem to be a way to activate it in the Internet Options. I suppose it isn't all that bad, but the team may not like it much. I'm pretty sure there's no way around this, but it's still worth a shot

3. Overclocking is hindered.

From what I thought, 2k was overclocking friendly. When I tried to overclock to my usual speed of 862 (7.5*115) The startup screen froze. I haven't tried any other combinations yet, but none of them will be as good as my 862.

I love the features 2k has, but I just can't live without what I had in 98SE. Any help would be appreciated. In the meantime, I'll try to do some more research

Oh yeah, my Internet Keyboard Pro's Hotkeys don't work anymore. Most of them still work, but some don't do anything. I'll try to find new drivers for them as well

get the latest drivers for your ati card
driver problems are often the main cause for all errors in win2k
i couldnt run 3dmark 2000 at all till i got decent drivers
im sure that there will be an auto connect feature to allow u to use folding@home
i dotn know it,cause i have dial up and cant connect like that
im sure some smart win2k user will know how to

for me overclocking has been helped with win2k
especially with my fsb
try upping your cpu voltage,or u may have to drop back a little for stability

as for your hot keys
i think this is driver dependant also

The new drivers worked. I just installed the 3271 Beta's and everything is fine. Overclocking still is a problem. I've set it at 1.90 volts and still no go. The hot keys I'm installing now

All right. Two down two to go. The software update is working fine now. I'll keep working on trying to the overclocking issue

I'm fairly new to REALLY overclocking a system, but I'm running 2 right now: win98- athlon 900@1050 and W2K- Athlon 1000@1400.

From all I've read W2K is more sensitive to hardware issues,ie: if your pc is not 100% stable, it won't 'clock as well. Not saying your pc isn't, but I know I got higher speeds on the 1 gig with w98- and ran for a while, but couldn't stop the crashes completely. I am completely stable at 1400 though, with 2000 Pro.

Score! I'm back up at 862. Not sure what I did, though. Now I need to auto-connect with AOL

Good news , I was going to say I can overclock with this OS fine the only problem I've found is the gaming problems and the fsb decrease. Wait my key board also stoped working right I cant use the volume button anymore and the hotkeys stopped working. Its a Standard 101/102-key (IBM) or a Natural PS/2 (MS) keyboard the hardware lists both in the hardware detect section , I had no luck finding 2kpro drivers or any drivers for this key board.

Anybody , anybody at all.
