This is both psu and gfx card related. I only want to upgrade my card because of money but my psu only gives 10A at +12. I have currently a Asus V9280S basically a faster Ti4200. I want to a card which can run games untill say this time next year as then i want to buy a whole new comp. Thanks in advance.
:welcome:
I'm thinking 6600GT would do fine until next year. Possibly 6800 NU. They both seem to be fast reliable cards, it just depends on your budget atm.

My psu most likely wont be able to handle that. Only 10A on +12 rail.
edit: i forgot my specs might help a bit
P4B 2.66 ghz, Asus V9280S, 2 harddrives 7200 rpm both, 3com network adapter. 3 fans, 1 dvd writer and 1 dvd drive and 512 mb of pc2700.
I think that it should be able to handle a stock 6600gt.
10A on the 12v rail sounds a little low to me to be honest... maybe that is because i've got PSU's ranging from 15A to 24A..
My guess is, it may handle it, but the PSU will get stressed. but then again, i don't know that much of videocard power req's ...
/me heads back to the Cooling section.
edit: I would replace that PSU anyway o_O 10A... *shiver*

I think a GT is a bit too costly for me. I dont have allot of income and im already saving for the new comp. So my budget is around the 100 euros.
Edit: what about this Asus GeForce 6600 128MB DDR (AGP, DVI), N6600/TD
Im willing to go Ati.
Fair enough.
As you said you'll be upgrading in a year, so x700 pro/xt (not sure on the price in euros) or the 6600 should be fine :)
*edit: Heck, I'm still playing games with my 9500pro :p

Yeah i would continue use this if bf 2 didnt require 1.4 shaders.

Im also thinking of getting some more pc2700 ram. How would that affect my psu if i also am going to get the Asus 6600?

Don't mean to butt in...how do you check the voltage on your 12volt rails?
http://www.tequipment.net/FlukeDigital77Multimeter.html
I have that multimeter...but I'm not all that familiar with using it...settings and what not

Set it to measure DC which should be the V with the straight line(s) above it (AC is the ones with the wavery lines above it). I beleive its the top left and top right where you connect the probes. To mesure the 12v rails I beleive you place the red probe into the red line and the black one into the black line on a molex connector, that should be correct.
(You'd never guess I'm a qualified tech with all this random guessing :S)

Sorry.
I've never heard of the 'Peak' brand cards myself. Ram hardly effects the psu at all so I wouldn't worry about it if you buy some more.
