I am looking to improve the cooling on my t-bird to do some OC'ing. I am going to move my Volcano 6Cu to a new Duron to OC it.

The Glaciator seems like one of the top HSF out there and too boot it is pretty quiet (which I want). But, with the design, it looks impossible to get the fan out of there, so what happens if it dies?

Also, anyone with Glaciator OC'ing experience, I'd love to hear your comments.

Thanks,
DB

This issue has been mentioned by other people aswell. They never had a problem that i know of, but they had the same concern as you.

With my glaciator and 1.33 AHYJA chip i got 1530mhz with e glaciator and 1600 mhz with watercooling. go watercooling if you want quite and don't expect too much overclocking potential out of the glaciator becuase of the slow fan speed. i doubt your fan will ever break though.

I think the glaciator offers the best cooling at the most tolerable noise level. The fan can be removed, you just take off the fan guard, remove the screws holding the fan in place and then pop it out breaking the glue bond that is completely unecessary in the first place.

How about the Alpha PAL8045 ? It seems to rate around the same as the Glaciator w/o all the weight.

I saw a review at www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1532&p=2 (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1532&p=2) that had the Alpha with a Orix fan rated right with the Glaciator with actually LESS noise.

Anyone used the Alpha? I think it is narrowed to these two.

Thanks again,
DB

I think the glaciator is a great o/cing hsf. Watch the weight though, I cracked my axia with it, I have my 1.33 at 1.5 but its not the hsf limiting me my chip just isn't the best. idle temp 39c and load temp 45c
