Hey oc'ers,

A friend of mine recommended ocforums for overclocking beginners. I've been around computers my whole life and never actually got into overclocking.

So yeah, anyways... Just got a new system and I need somebody to help me overclock this beast :burn: :

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939 Winchester Integrated into Chip FSB
DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D
OCZ EL Platinum Rev2 2x512MB DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel
Leadtek PX6600GT TDH Extreme 128MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16
FSP Group AX500-A ATX12V 500W PSU
Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150
Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000BWA Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower
Thermaltake Thunderblade A1926 120mm Sleeve Blue LED Light Fans (replaced 2 stock fans)
THERMALTAKE CL-P0024 Heatsink (just ordered)
THERMALTAKE A2017 90mm 1 Ball 1 Sleeve Blue LED Light Fan (just ordered 2 of them for the heatsink)

I read up on overclocking a little bit, but I'm going nowhere. I still have no idea what HTT or LDT multiplier is for. I know however that FSB times HTT has to equal or be less than 1000MHz. I had to manualy set the timings on the ram to 2-2-2-5, because it automatically detected it as 2-2-3-5 for some reason.

I was wondering if I am doing something wrong because whenever I tried raising the FSB to 205MHz, it was running stable - Memtest86 ran 1500% in coverages, no errors. 8 hours of Prime95 - stable. When I tried raising to 210MHz, my computer hangs at the logon screen than reboots itself. It let me go into windows with 208MHz FSB, but memtest86 gave me a bejesus (a lot) ammount of errors in the first 5%.

I also tried messing around with ratios and the HTT multiplier thing. Got it up to 8.5x265MHz FSB with 3x HTT multiplier and a 3:4 ratio on the RAM frequency. That also required to raise the voltages on LDT, DRAM, and Chipset (i don't know if that was the right thing to do, but that was the only way i could load into windows). Yet again, not stable, memtest gave an enormous amount of errors, and ZoneAlarm's TrueVector kept on crapping out. :bang head

Somebody please help!!! :temper: I need like a tutorial or something, cuz I'm lost...

Thanks in advace,
UKF.

I don't know about your RAM if it's only rated to run at PC3200 (400mhz.) I'm not sure how high it will clock, although if it is OCZ Platinum it should go slightly higher than stock ;).

Possibly you should loosen your RAM timings in order to get it to run at 265mhz without errors?

If I were you I would post in the Memory section about your RAM and what it should be able to do etc.

Hope that I've been of some help,
William

Thanks!!!

But, if it's not too much asking, could you maybe go a little bit more into that... How loose should I set them... Because, I mean, people have tested this ram, and it should run at at least 250MHz with 2-2-2-5 timings, so I don't know.

btw... if it's a memory how do I move this thread?

Try raising voltages? I'm not that familiar with the AMD64 overclocking though, but I'm pretty sure raising some voltages will help. Which ones? My answer would be I'm not so sure. hehe

Good Luck

Erm, sorry UKF, I don't know anything about A64 overclocking (well I know quite a bit, just sadly don't really have the opportunity as of yet to put my knowledge in to practice.) Nor shall I even pretend to know anything about ram timings lol.

Ask a mod (blue stars) to move the post for you although I think you should just make a new post in Memory section saying your problem with the RAM in particular.

Meh, I just go by the rule of take care not to **** off those with lots of pretty stars, ask them for help etc. :D
