I was planning on ordering a 1.4 Athlon (AYHJA) and just trying to modestly overclock it to around 1.5 ghz. Would i be better off just getting the 1800 Xp which is already at 1.53?

depends, is it worth over $100 for about 6%?

Well, sure that 6% is not overclocked. These chips run cooler, no doubt, so you should be able to achieve better and more stable overclocks. Some people have their 1800's at a real 1.8ghz, a day or so after they have gotten them.

Personally I'd wait till the 2000 came out (1.73ghz) and then get the new KR7.

the 6% is more like 25% you have to look at benchmarks and I am sure there will be dozens of sites with them out by monday. the 1.4 is a super bargain at 105 shipped and may drop even more so it is a great value but won't touch a xp18000 especially if you push the overclock.

my 1.4 runs 1.5 @ 86

you really get more bang for the 1.4 over the 1.53.

you could run these clock to clock and still the old core will kick it

I'm happy with my 1.4 @1.617. It's rock solid.

I overclocked mine the first day I got it.

See specs below. It runs about 43C on a full load

the 1.33 XPs are only 128 so this maybe a great deal as they will overclock to around the 1.4s and run cooler so I think in the long run this is the best chip and it has sse support too. do it!

I agree...the prices increase is too exponential to go for one of the higher ones, just yet. Although look across at the P4 prices, hmm, they're almost exactly the same! What a coincidence!

I got the same MB, same amount of RAM (except mine is crucial), same VCore (1.85) and I can only get a maximum of 143mhz fsb. Anything above that I get a BSOD saying "Windows Protection Error". How can you get that high of a setting? What is your VIO1 set at? What are your RAM settings (CL2 or CL2.5)? Any help will be appreciated.

The XP kicks ass. Wait for a bit, let the prices cut (they will at that price,) and then buy a 1800+. These things will push 1.9-2 GHz on just one stepping I've heard of. You can live with your 1.4 for a while then get one before christmas probably.

But what I'm planning on is...

Getting watercooling at around christmas time, then hopefully around April the new 64bit's will be out right in time for my Bday ;)

But on the other hand I could go for the Kr7 and a 2100+ when it comes out ;)
