Why do I keep getting out of memory errors when running 3Dmark2001? I have 352 megs of ram, and 3 gigs of virtual memory, and 32Meg vid card, but after a few tests, it wont run any more.

Holy guano, why on Earth would you have 3 gig of virtual memory? Talk about overkill. My experience has shown you must only have 3Dmark2001 running and nothing else. Also, I usually reboot after each run because after a few times, the program sometimes acts goofy and doesn't always give consistant benchmarks.

thanks, il try with nothing else running.

I know 3 gig is overkill, but i got 90 gigs of space, why not use it.
Actually, I did have it set lower, but i was trying UT with 256Megs of Cache, and after a few tries, it would consume all the ram, and all the Virtual Memory (Ever seen a gig swap file), so i just increased it for fun.

What your Aperature size? You can usually set it in your BIOS. With your setup I'd reccomend 128mb or 256mb. General rule is to set it to half of your sysytem memory

What I recommend is doing a start, run, msconfig. Go to startup tab, uncheck all programs except system tray and scan registry. Then reboot and try it again. That will get rid of stuff running in the background that will sometimes cause out of memory errors.

I got it working, thanks. ooh, 881 3Dmarks. BTW, it's PCI, so you cannot set an aperature size. My mobo sucks, and has an onboard ATI Rage Pro, connected to the AGP bus, so I have to use PCI addon video cards.
