Today I got two new 256MB PC133-333 DIMMS. Both are from Spectec, but they are different. One of them has only 4 chips on each side, horizontally mounted instead of the usual 8 or 16 vertically mounted chips. This one is a bugger cuz my mobo only recognizes 128MB, is this somekind of new standard? Thus my iBX mobo cannot cope with it anymore? I tried it in a IBM Celeron 633/810E system I have around and it crashes with this module unless I added the 64MB stick that was already in it, lol!

Ah, This is the case of High & Low density chips.

If your Mobo can see 1.5 gig of RAM, then you can use high density DIMMS.

If your Mobo can see up too 1024MB you must use low density DIMMS.

The Abit BE6-II can only go to 1024MB, Cause I know, I have the same one.

The only easy way around it, is to purchase 128MB chips only. Since it would be a better value than 256MB low density DIMMS. These do not come in high or low density. They work with anything, making them 100% compatable with almost every mobo out there. I know you will only have a max of 384MB, but thats plenty for todays standards.

The DIMMS you have are High density and most likely less exspensive than the one's you really need.

Since the market for low density chips is becoming almost absolete, these chips maybe 15% more than high density DIMMS.

Hope this was helpful

Thanx for the Info! It's no problem cuz I already had a 256MB stick and added the 'low density' spectec stick so I now have 512MB. I left the 'high density' 256MB stick in the IBM cuz that 810E chipset recognizes it just fine together with the Mosel Vitelic stick that was already in it. My PEP66 is blocking one DIMM slot so I could only install two 128MB sticks. I like 512MB better, you can never have enough RAM!!!
