This is an error I've grown to hate. I have my desktop going through a switch for months. I turn off my comp one day and I turn it back on and I get the limited or no connectivity error. So I format. Get the same thing. So I plug in a router, works great.
My laptop connects to my wireless router with no issues. I go to my ex g/f's house and I hardwire the cat5 and I get the limited or no connectivity. I format. No go. I try fixes, no go. I try release and renew...no go. I give up. Come home, thing works again.
I go to my friends house and she has wireless broadband. I get limited or no connectivity. What the hell is up with this error? I've read it's an issue with SP2, but have you guys ran into it? Have you been able to target exactly what causes it? I did a forum search on it and couldn't find much.

So I've concluded it's not the computer, it's not the network. This error is choosy, and stubborn. Random. I'm losing all my hair over this.

go to command promt and type ipconfig/all check your ip address, if u r on dhcp u can try to release and than renew it
to release type ipconfig/release
to renew type ipconfig/renew

you can also specify ur ip addreess, gateway and dns manually.

cheers

Release and renew was a no go. Will try manual setup.

Is it me or does everyone always reformat when they get problems?

It's the standard Windows response. I think it's the first, and sometimes the only, response a tech support for Windows gets taught.
I format my disk(s) exactly once: when I get them. Sometimes but very rarely when I repartition.

Likewise, for all the problems I've had so far, I'd rather figure out the problem and use reformating as a last resort, just cause of what a pain it is, plus I dont have any place ot move files to.

Ive had the same problem twice on one of our dells. I just reformated, thinking it was a windows issue, but anyway it fixed the problem for me

Im pretty its a hardware incompability with sp2
