whats the best thing to use to clean the bottom of a block, one of them has old Paste on it.

Alcohol for the paste.
Something acidic for the copper oxidation. Catsup works wounders....

for the paste, use high-purity rubbing alcohol or acetone or laquer/paint thinner
for the corrosion/oxidation, soak it in vinegar for a couple hours, or scrub it down with barkeeper's friend (takes 1/5 the time soaking in vinegar does)
