Question

Im a bit of a "newbie" to overclocking and i was just curious what type of temp. would be normal when overclocking a processor.

Ive got an MSI board with a 667 celeron overclocked to 800 already. Temp readings are around 44c

I dont want to run it too hot and kill my processor...

do you have a cooler on it?

thats alot for a celeron

intels always been cooler but somethings wrong with your chip

unless of course its like 80 degrees ambient in your room

I dunno what the room temp is, the thermostat in the place is screwed.

I only have the default fan on it...ive bee thinkin of getting a new fan of some sort but i wanted to find out what a "normal" range of heat would be just incase...so if i was running too hot i could back off a bit till i got a new one.

running fsb of 80 with the 10x multiplier, is right around 800mhz

44c = about 105F right?

Well, 44 degrees C. is closer to 110 degrees F. I think. Those temps are "typical" for an overclocked Celeron with a crappy retail cooler and crappy heat tape. However, that's really too hot. Most of those coppermines will start having stability problems at that temp, especially if you push it hard in 3D games or benchmarking. I like to keep my CPU load temps down at 40 degrees or less when overclocking. Lose the retail cooler and get a better one, then use some thermal paste when you install the new cooler.

another question...what would be the max temp to push to?

Im just testing stuff out to get an idea of what i can do with the hardware that i have.

Like i said im up around 800, and as far as i can tell its still very stable. I wanted to push a little more in the morning when i get home.
