I never got into starcraft, but TA ruled. Did anyone ever play 'Metal Fatigue' vaguely TA like 3D RTS that was good but got overlooked.

Love good RTS games. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

Meh star craft was a decent rts back then but it wasnt revolutionairy in anyway like TA was.

To be honest I was rather unimpressed with the original TA, didn't do anything for me game wise, mind you neither did starcraft. Only RTS games that have got me going are C&C series and Wc3.

But I will most likely keep an eye on this one :)

Oh man, I remember the very first time I saw one of my planes casually flip in midair during it's patrol...Total Annihilation was sooooooo sweet.

It also redefined the term 'resource hog' in its day though. New one should be very interesting indeed :)

*inhales and breathes life back into thread*

This will be the biggest thing since sliced bread! Where is everyone on this? It's the sequal to total annihilation people! Total Anihilation!!!

Heck was even on the cover of PC Gamer:The big deal with SC is that there is a galactic war going on in real-time and as the Supreme Commander, you can seamlessly zoom in and out of different battles, shifting from a satellite to ground-level view. The action takes place on land, air, and sea with a large variety of units, including "major units" that are huge, hulking pieces of steel many times larger than the standard unit. Think a Godzilla-sized unit marching along with your tanks.

Overall, the article has you coming away with the sense that Taylor is trying to reinvigorate the genre. He feels RTS games don't feature strategy of any kind and he's here to fix that. For instance, you can use a "Base Commander" to handle all resource management while you're off actually dictating the outcomes of battles. On top of that, he wants to create a sense of realism and scale that has yet to be seen; the battleships in Supreme Commander are so enormous, you'd need a dual screen setup to see the whole thing at the ground level view. Supreme Commander is set to release in 2006.

And for you young guys who never played the awsomeness of TA (I'd actually recommend going out and buying Ta and expansions. They'll probably be on ebay for cheap) here is a 3d version of TA, called TA spring. Supposed to be pretty good, and hell it's free.

I will own you with bertha cannons in 2006 (http://spring.clan-sy.com/)

Yes TA is back baby!! Makes me want to fire up my old Acer 166mhz and play again!! Seriously, cant wait for this, we need more choices in the RTS category. C&C is good, but cant beat giant robots!!!

Hah! That game was such a resource hog it was hardly worth playing...my system was dying, with 266MHz P2 and 12MB Voodoo 2! Yeah!

in my book TA smokes sc. i never got the hype with starcraft.

TA smokes most RTS games even ones made today - even now the scale of it feels epic, massive maps, hundreds of units, combat on ground sea and air ... such a grand vision of an RTS that 99% of recent titles should be ashamed of themselves for bothering

does anyone know of any thrid party unit packs that is 100% tested to not have any unit conflicts? i want to play this game again but don't want to go through the process of using conflict crusher when adding new units etc.

You should find everything TA related you might need here. (http://tauniverse.com)

ninthebin you are sooooo right. TA did to RTS what Half-life did to FPS, they revolutionized everything and set the bar.

I got into Total Annihilation a few years after it came out, so I couldn't truely appreciate how "revolutionary" it was. I was a StarCraft fanboy myself. =D

I read about this on gamespy yesterday, and I agree with what he says. I am freaking tired of playing with a few little units on a tiny map. This looks very promising.

I cant wait. I still love having massive 2000 unit seiges with my brother on our lan..... Watching my 20 anti nukes foil his attempt at carpet nuking me is also fun. Some times our fights would last for a good 2 weeks or so on the 7 islands metal map.... Nothing but huge naval battles, massive swarming air strikes and watching my krogoths cut swaths of destruction through battle lines of hundreds of feeble arm tanks and kbots.
