Ok, this is really strange I had my carputer working fine last night and then all of a sudden it turned off and wouldnt turn back on. I figured it was the humidity, so I left it off and brought it inside today to check it out. I plug it into the wall and then hit the on switch on the back and BOOM, spark a good 6-8" high out of the top of the psu. Great, psu's blown up. Replace it today and the computer turns on which was good, because it was a TT 420W psu and it shouldnt take stuff down with it. I put it all back together in the car with the new okia 500w cheap ass psu.

So I had the computer on and I was re-wiring the speakers into my amp and I go up to the front seat and check the monitor, which wasnt displaying anything. Turned it off and back on and it kept saying Check Signal Cable.

I turned the computer off, checked all connections and tried to turn it back on and it turns on for 2seconds and shuts off. So again, I brought it all inside and pulled everything but the chip and ram. Same thing, pulled the ram, same thing. So I put the ram back in and pulled the chip and turned it on, and it stayed on. Atleast the chip was under warranty so I can replace that later (stores closed already). I pulled my roommates xp2200(I think) from his system and put it in the car computer to test it out and same thing. 2 Seconds and turns off.

Heres the situation last night: We had a big thunderstorm and power went out, I have a big battery backup that should last for almost an hour with my system. But when the power went out I turned off my system and ended up going to bed shortly after. Get up this morning and my computer wont turn on, so I checked everything on the home computer and it was fine, I pulled out the psu cord and put it back in and I heard a singe-ing sound. Great, that 420TT is dead too. Except this one doesnt have warranty anymore (previous mods) so I RMA'd 1 420TT and put it in my home computer, which Im using now and it works fine. However, my roomates's computers all turned off with the power, one of them has a 5$ power bar and his computer works fine. My other roommate (who has the xp2200 that I pulled) has a cheap ass APC that wont power his system when AC goes out, but still has surge protection.

I never tried his computer today (as I assumed it worked, he never said anything to me) and I pulled the chip and put it in the ASROCK mobo from the car, and it does the same thing. Either this mobo is pulling down chips because its fried, or both of these chips are screwed. I tried both the carputer chip and the xp2200 out of his computer IN his computer, and same thing. 2 Seconds and turns off.

And my other roomate with the working computer wont give me his xp2600 chip to try because he doesnt want it to die too.

What do you think the problem is? mobo or just coincidence with 2 chips dying? I think its kind of strange that the carputer just stopped giving signal (while it was running) and then wont turn back on afterwards. Caps on the mobo are fine.

First off I have to commend your room mates LMAO..

I would look to see if the board is shorting anywhere..

I checked all the usual crap on a mobo that would fail, burned mosfets, shorts, loose connections etc.

I dont know what else to do, could a board kill chips when you turn it on?

Your board may be overvolting the CPU socket and that could be killing the chips. I'd just write of the motherboard as dead and quit experimenting with it unless you have a stockpile of durons somewhere.

How can I test the voltage on that board? (in my sig) its a cheapo, but Id rather it be the chip that died because that has warranty

Well the chips are probably dead now...

Another wierd thing is I was putting back my buddies computer with the 2200 and it wouldnt work, I explained to him what happened when he got home and he turned it on and it posted fine. Maybe the 2200 isnt dead now? I still cant get mine to work.

Well end story was, his wasnt broken at all. It was acting stupid. Replaced the 2600 and it works fine now, except the ram doesnt like being in spot 1, it wont post... next step is replacing board I guess.
