First let me say, what a great forum. Glad I found it!

Now for my question.

When I first put together my current system I was using the ASUS P3C2000 (pretty sure that was it) it had the buggy intel chipset. ASUS gladly replaced it free of charge for an ASUS P3V4X. Much better, I really like the board.

Here's the deal though, with the P3C2000 the multiplier for the P3 500 was unlocked, ie, I could change the multiplier in BIOS. Now with the P3V4X, the multiplier is greyed out and I am unable to change it. Leaving me to believe that the precessor is locked....... or is it???

I can change the Mhz and run at about 550mhz (sytem will show a PIII 550mhz is installed) and run fine. Not buggy. But I need to get at the multiplier, right?

Besides, it's running hot at 550.

What can I do? Any suggestions?

Rogue,

First of all welcome to the forums. You many have been able to change the multiplier in BIOS on your old board but it didn't change the speed of you processor any. For the longest time Intel chips have been multiplier locked. So you haven't lost anything.

Well Thanks guys.

So how do I now go about oc'ing this baby? I can run it at 550 with no prob's. If I set the pci freq multi- at say 120 mhz it won't post. I can get it to post at about 580mhz but windoze crashes.

Any suggestions?

I have that same mobo and like it a lot. The next thing to try is to increase the vcore setting. You have to keep an eye on temps. I would suggest getting a good heat sink and fan combo. Try either an Alpha P3125 or a Global Win VOS-32.
