Right now i have a dell
2.2 ghz
512 pc2100
pci 5200

and i have

3200 venice
asus a8n-e
512 (will be a gig later) twinmos speed premium 3200
same 5200 (once again for now)

i have crap cuz i work in an ice cream shop, 300 a month is sloooowwww money.

Basically will the faster cpu/fsb increase my gaming performance a little..i would love to wait to x mas to get a new vid card...but that's wayyy too far away. I'm fine playing 10*7 resolution, i get about 25-30 fps on CSS and hl2 with 10*7 lowest settings now.

oh yeah, ill be o/cing :)

edit- check post 10 for more information

Well, I wouldn't expect a huge increase in gaming performance as far as framerates and quality goes, but the loading and so forth may be a tad 'zippier'.

That video card will definately bottleneck that cpu.

holy crap yes. that video card needs to go. i got this radeon 7000 as a
"hold-me-over" 'til i can get a nicer card. it at LEAST expected 80 frames in cs 1.6. no dice, i get 80 frames if i stare at a wall. bag the card (first priority in my opinion).

Get a new video card , a cheaper one but better than the 5200 :eh?:

Then over Xmas upgrade the whole thing like you were planning, it will cost ya less then too cause its 6 months away!

But that is what I would do...

Problem: Does the dell have an AGP slot? or are you limited to PCI? That's going to be the main concern I have. PCI video cards aren't very good by today's standards.

If you buy mid-range AGP card, that's where you will see the most gain. If you don't have an AGP slot, at the minimum swap your motherboard, keep everything else, then buy a video card.

If you've got the money you can buy a low-end 754 setup with a video card. That should last a while, even on a budget. As long as you have a decent video card.

ok, maybe i did word it poorly..the dell is what i used to play games, and i upgraded to the a64 up there, waiting on ram. And meanwhile, im wondering if i put the 5200 in the a64 FOR NOW, IM POOR! will give me a little increase in performance to get me by for a month till i pay off the system.

I dunno what u guys are thinking but YES that will be a BIG speed increase, cept for the video card of course.

BTW That card u have now is AGP right? Isn't that Asus board PCI-E?
