If you did this on 3DMark2001 that isn't a bad score for a GF2. It's not top of the line, but it is respectable. What drivers are you using. I don't know too much about GF2 drivers, but everyone is raving about the new Detonator 4's.

the new drivers: 21.81's

to check what version you're using goto display properties and click on "Settings" then "Advanced" then the GeForce tab. you should see versions like: 4.13.01.1290 (12.90 drivers) or 4.13.01.2181 (21.81 drivers)

Ditch that PC100 memory stick too m8, that's slowing you down. Also, what FSB are you running at?

DeathScyth_Hell

I'm running it at 76 FSB...which makes 800 mhz...

The celeron will hold you back from getting great scores, but yours is a little bit low.

I think it's a driver issue. Try several different ones and see what happens. Be sure the VIA drivers are most up to date (the 4.33 4-in-1s are available through the lin kin my signature below).

what kind of drivers are those...i thought i only use the detonator ones??...

As you know I have the same card as you.

Mine is clocked at 220/440 and my highest published scores to date are:

3DMark2000= 8860
http://gamershq.madonion.com/compare.shtml?2046964

3DMark2001= 4051
http://gamershq.madonion.com/compare2k1.shtml?1705931

I use the 12.90 drivers. I found it gives me better results than the 14.40 and 21.81 drivers.

I think it is your processor that is slowing you down though:(

Also I forgot to mention, make sure you turn off all applications!

I was getting scores in the 3500's a few days back and I couldn't figure out why. I turned of some apps and disconnected my cable modem and they shot right back to the 4000 mark.

Also try to keep your temps down. My temps are pretty high, about 60 CPU, 30 Mobo under load. I think with some better cooling in my system I could boost the performance more.

but do you know what the VIA driver does??...

The first thing i figured out when i saw my low score was because of my cpu...when i saw your score...i knew it was the cpu...but 2300 is too low...i expected to be like atleast 3000...so i think its the driver problem...

i just installed the 21.81 drivers...which didn't really boost my score...then i went to install the 14.70 drivers...but in the display properties it still says i'm using the 21.81 drivers...what gives??

I don't know what the Via drivers are for sorry:(

I don't have any Via components/chipsets so I don't think they would help me.

Did you restart you computer after installing the 14.70 drivers?

FYI, I just tested out the new 21.85 drivers and I got a score of 3955 so I went back to the 12.90 again until I can find something better.

i restarted the comp...now i'm trying to install the 12.90 drivers and it still says i'm using the 21.85 drivers...hmmmm...i'm getting mad...i'm never lucky in this kind of stuff...something always have to be wrong.....:confused:

I haven't checked back until now, sorry...

Uninstall the video card in device manager, reboot. The reinstall the video drivers you want.

VIA drivers are for motherboards using the VIA chipset. if you have an Intel motherboard then they don't apply, but if it's an Abit or 'nother brand that using a VIA chipset you'll want to update them.

DeathScyth_Hell

Is it because of the Detonator 21.85 driver causing my comp not detecting my cdrom in windows...??>..plzzzz help...

Whoa. You having some issues brother.

Right click my computer, go to properties.

Click on the tab for hardware and click the device manager button.

Click on display adapter (or the like). Double click the display card. In the properties for this card you will find (somewhere) an uninstall option. Click uninstall, reboot, and proceed as I've indicated above.

As for your scsi issue, hopefully it will fix itself when reinstalling the video drivers because I don't have a clue when it comes to scsi drivers/etc.

Theres no uninstall button in the Display adapter under the device manager tab...when i double click the card...there still isn't an uninstall button...is there another way??...

in win9x click "remove" in the sys properties box

If you lose that pc100 ram, dropping down to a total of 256 megs, you will see a large improvement. Also, make sure all background programs are shut off, as well as active desktop.

Windows handles ram best in "multiples of two", i.e. 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, etc.

Hope this helps!

Well I hope all works out for you. I was screwing with some of the Detonator drivers myself yesterday and managed to really screw my computer up. This seemed to have happened with the same 21.85 drivers you tried also. I have decided to stop messing with them and stick with the 12.90, which give me a 300+ point increase in 3DMark2001 over the drivers that came with the card.

FWIW, I have tried the 14.40, 14.70, 21.81 and the new 21.85 drivers and none of them increase on the performance of the 12.90 drivers in my setup.

Here is what happened to me yesterday:

First I had the AGP stuck at 1X somehow even thought the bios said it was at 4X. That little problem was actually causing a 500 point decrease in 3DMark2001 scores, which seems surprising.

Next after I tried a re-boot, I couldn't get past the windows splash screen on boot up, it would just freeze everytime.

I tried reinstalling windows with no luck, so I had to completely reformat and reinstall.

Well I am back to about 80% now and I did some new benchmarks and the video system is finally back to normal:)

3DMark2001= 4060
3DMark2000= 8903

I think I will just be satisfied with my results for now since the only games I even own are Real Myst and Half-Life and I have never even played them since I really suck at them. I mainly use MAME and the card works fine for that:)

Good Luck!
