What is the best AGP apature size for the video card in sig, and does it make any kind of performance difference.

its more dependant on how much system memory you have. aperature is basicly just system memory set aside to help the vmemory on your videcard. if you only have 512mb of system memory and set the aperature to 256 you may run into some problems. for the most part when i was still using agp i kept it between 64 and 128 which seemed to be the sweetspot for my 1gig of ram i had used for the majority of the time. setting it to low can cause your hdd to work as the buffer to the vmem and can slow things down a bit so you might not want to go to low with it either.

Right now it is at 128 and I have heard before that it needed to be half the memory on the card, but didn't know if that was the case with ddr2.

its hard to say just for certain what your most effective aperature size will be if your card has 64mb of memory a higher aperature would help. say you had 2 gigs of system memory and only 64mb of video memory a aperature of 256 might help out more than an aperature of 32mb. if you have a card with 256mb of vmemory and you set the aperature to 256mb your probably just wasting system memory and would be better served to use the 128mb or even the 64mb setting. the rules for aperature arent set in stone especially when you look at the progression of video memory the more popular cards are coming with now. someones experiences with a 32mb radeon 7000 and 256mb of system memory wont apply to the cards/systems used today or the aperature size they work best with.

64 seems to bench out best for most systems in 3dmark

Its an option given in the bios. When your computer boots just hit the delete key till your into the bios and then look around for the AGP APature settings. Default is usualy 64 Meg. Hope that helps.

I've always set the size to the videocard memory size. Never had any problems.

i go with double the cards ram

32/64
64/128
128/256
256/512

That's what I would do. Sounds good to me.

The more VRAM you have on your video card, the smaller AGP Aperature you will need. That's what I have always heard. It also shouldn't be close to your system's memory total or it might cause serious problems.
