ok so I saved up approx. $1100-300 (still gotta find piggy back :p ) and was thinking about a new computer... I had this in mind.

CPU: AMD 3700+ (not sure what core)
MOTHERBOARD: DFI SLI-DR
RAM: kingston hyperx pc-4000
VGA: BFG 7800GTX
PSU: (still thinking)
HARDDRIVE: Maxtor 250GB 16MB CACHE

cd drives and cpu cooler I already have.

If i left anything out please be welcomed to add or criticize.

for the PSU how about the fortron blue storm 500w I think there is a great deal on it right now. It is the best cheapish PSU out there IMO.

not only is it the best cheap PSU, but it is one of the best overall PSUs.

The kingston I just bought for $100 from my cousin. The 3700+ I can get for $250 shipped from my good friend over at ktc.

Yeah you aren't gonna be getting that graphics card and processor in a pc for $1100 - $1300 unless the rest of the pc is a hunk of crap.

$1300 - $350 = $950.

7800 GTX = $599

$950 - $599 = $351

DFI Sli-DR = $172

$351 - $172 = $179

Maxtor 16MB Cache 250GB = $131

$179 - $131 = $48

This leaves you with $48 to buy a power supply, which any power supply you can get for that cheap will probably fry your equipment if you are powering all of that and an NVIDIA 7800 GTX to top all.

I wonder if you have the sound card already, on a pc that high end surely you want a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS? Around $80. If you have a high end sound card your going to want good speakers - $130 +, You are surely going to want a nice display if you don't already have one? $150+, What about the keyboard and mouse? The PC is nice for gaming so you are going to want a nice optical im sure. $30+

I still don't think you have enough unless you got some other deals...

^ Agree

What about the case? I say for the PSU you might need a 600W (Fortron? OCZ? PCP?)

not sure what PSU i should get. but i could dish out about $80 for a good one.

and I think im going to ditch the 7800gtx for dual x800xls or is it not worth it?

and get an nforce crossfire board when it comes out.

and I could get a fx55 from my good friend and neighbor for $450 or should i stick with the 3700?

and I just received my $300 from the interest i earned over the years so i have a total of $1512

stuff i already have (still have $about 1512):
mx518
thermaltake 420watt (one on newegg)
kingston pc-4000 hyperx
thermaltake tower112 (dual tornados) not sure if i should keep.. the zalman 9500 looks nice
cd drive and dvd
logitech z-5500

EDIT: one more thing.. is the 16mb cache really worth it on the maxtor? or should i get raptors?

Dual x800 XL's? Only nVidia cards are SLI capable right now. I don't think theres going to be a nforce crossfire board either.

Dual X800XL's don't exist yet. No such thing as a nForce Crossfire. Crossfire is based on the ATi Xpress(?) Chipset to be released mid/late-July(correct me if I'm wrong).

With $1500, you can keep your current setup you just added enough money to deal with the case/psu. I suggest Lian-Li PC60APlus (2 120mm). Enermax 535W might be sufficient for $113 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103462
