Ok, so my cpu has been running at around 51 for the past few weeks so I decide hey, why not put a fresh coat of arctic silver on it and see if that helps. Well it didn't. Instead now I am sitting here trying to type with the CPU at 60C with very little stability. The heatsink is H O T to touch. I can't figure out what the problem is, I wiped off the old stuff and all that yet it's burning up... Please, someone help me before my computer self destructs! Just ask what info you need, I'm running at 1.4 right now and using MBM to monitor my heat
this hsf is a little tricky take it off and make sure that it is all the way to teh front check with a flashlight. sounds like when you put it back on you had it on the socket ridge. just take it off and install it again with the hs pushed all teh way forward and then clamp it down and check with a flashlight. you should be golden.....................gate that is.

Looks like you were right. I reset the heatsink again after sanding that mofo down to a mirror finish and applying arctic silver II and now I'm running SETI@Home and running at 38. Thanks for the tip, not sure why it didn't set right the first time I tried it but hey it's working now ;)

38ºC Load?? WOW!
I have an SK-6 with AS2 on my 1.575Ghz and its running load at 42ºC Load.
I really might have to get into lapping.
