View Full Version : What's a safe ºC for an Athlon Classic?

I've got an Athlon 950, and I'm just wondering where should I stop in terms of heat. I can overclock till the cows come home, but at the cost of heat. Where should I stop it? 40ºC? 50ºC?

Edit: I thought I'd give you some more information. Firstly, my thermistor is mounted right next to the CPU die, loosly sandwiched between the CPU PCB and my CoolerMaster DP2-5H54. I currently have my system overclocked to 999MHz, using the default voltages (1.80 core, 3.30 I/O), and 105/34MHz FSB speed. (9.5x multiplier) At this setting, it's around 40ºC, increasing 3ºC under full load.

Well, for the sockets you wanna watch out at about 70C, so I'd say dont' go much above 65C or so. Really, though, if your system is stable you shouldn't have to worry.

It's an Athlon Classic. (Slot-A) AMD's website is pathetic now, and doesn't give up information easily, so i have no way of finding out what a safe temperature is.

Also, I thought that 60C was when an Athlon dies.

60C is when you should worry if you're using the insocket thermistor. You're not, so you can afford to use something closer to reality. Which is 70C.

Sorry to keep bringing this up, but my CPU is Slot-A, not Socket-A. My thermistor is mounted on the side of the die.
