Hey everyone,

I've had this problem for some time now, but have never really brought it up. It's mostly irritating, more than a huge problem.

My 9800pro, I've had for 2 years. It's been a great card, and still works well with all of my games and applications.

However, when my little girl gets into some of her games (pre-school learning games), or my wife plays some of her downloaded Yahoo games (Zuma, stuff like that), there tends to be some stuttering on and off. All these games are 2D. I've never run into any 3D problems at all with any game I own (Doom3, Half-Life 2, etc), but it seems like this stuttering problem on some of these other games will not go away.

I'm wondering if the 9800pro has some setting or something that might be interferring with 2D apps? Or maybe I'm way off base, and there is really a problem somewhere else?

Anyone ever run into anything like this?

I doubt it's the video card. Those Yahoo games are flash games right? They'll stutter if there is alot of hard drive activity or if the CPU has a problem like overheating or not enough/too much voltage. If you're overclocked, try putting the settings back down to stock. Also take a look in msconfig (click start, run and type msconfig) and click the startup tab. Remove anything that looks isnt necessary. Also, it wouldn't hurt to do a spyware/virus scan.

BTW, what is your screen resolution? The stutters might be tearing from the resolution being so high that you don't have a fast enough refresh rate possibly.

Great tips apu318. Thanks!

I think you may have stumbled onto something with the screen resolution. Although, my refresh rate is 85mhz, and my resolution is 1024x768. That seems like it should be enough. Also, I now have an Athlon64 processor running at stock (I need to change my sig---just upgraded this past weekend) so, I can't believe it's that.

I run Adaware every day, and my msconfig seems to be clean. My harddrive is relatively new---just a few months---so I'm at a loss. I will play around with resolutions/refresh rates, though and see what I can come up with.
