I found a nice deal on an ata-100 hard drive, and my friend is telling me not to get it because its ata-100 and not ata-133. I was under the knowledge that there was no speed difference between these drives. Was i under the wrong impression?

ata-100 is 100mb/s ata 133 = 133 mb/s serial = ata 150 150mb/s transfer rate take those numbers for what its worth.
ATA 150 is only available for sata drives.

pretty nice grab, the price change and skipping the shady tiger direct rebate process is worth it.
and sata cables are much better, and are razor thin unlike the very clumsy pata cables.
you won't notice the difference in day to day operation, so don't get that impression, but it is faster none the less, and more future proof, you can use that hard drive for many more rigs to come, while PATA is being phased out, HARD.
