Hey Im going to buy a wireless connection since I have two computers now.. I play games on this comp such as guildwars, wc3, cs, etc...but the other comp will probably just be used by my parents and sister for the 'regular' stuff like AIM, mail, and music...So i was wondering whats a good wireless router and card to buy for me and the other computer so i wont be lagging like crazy..
For connection info:
I use a cable, OPtimum Online :-p
buy wireless g or b router, that way you can connect your pc via ethrnet other through wireless.
I would suggest buying a G wirelss worked for me better than B
I had good luck with Linksys stuff, especially with WRT54GS

well as for gaming and wireless there is really no such thing as 'not laggy' If your gaming computer is in a place that is close to where your internet is I woudl suggest staying wired. As for the other computer, in "music" do you mena jsut listening to music or streaming it off a website? (like a web radio)
as for wireless linksys makes great products. the WRT54G is a good buy and gives you the ability to stay wired with your main machine. Just a matching Linksys PCI wireless card for the other machine and your in business.
Make sure you secure it though ;)

I would go with a linksys wireless G router, make sure to use WPA encryption and set up a MAC address list so no one will "borrow" your wireless network, as far as gaming and I know I'm going to catch grief for this one, but lag isnt really a factor when connecting via wireless, at least for me it isn't, my pings are exactly the same wired vs wireless on doom 3 MP, RTCW MP, Q3 MP ect... maybe i'm just lucky... anywho I cant stress enough to use good encrpytion on your wireless network.

I went to wireless reasontly, and its not pretty, I thinks its my router. It keeps on disconnecting from the ISP and losing wireless signal. Updating firmware, no help. SO dont get the SMC2804wbrp.

If your a gamer, Wired is the only way to go. I know someone posted it, but no one told me enough apparently. I had to find out the hard way :(

I'm another Linksys fan. If you must go wireless, get 802.11g at least. It's 54Mb/s and should be fast enough. Depending on your computer's distance from the router, you may or may not have problems in games.

Check your settings and see how long it is set to keep the DSL/cable connection for. By default, my router only stays connected for 10mins when not used, but I changed that to 10,000 minutes :).

if its just for internet you wont notice any difference between a wireless B or G, because your internet is only gonna be 1mbps max unless your running an OC-48 backbone into your house (mmm...4.8 GBPS internet is makin my mouth water...just think...a movie in less time than it would take to go next door and rent it..wow). anyways...wireless B is 11MBPS, and G is 54MBPS. unless you're doing file transfers over your wireless...it really doesnt matter what you get. I have extreme G...its really fast. i transfer full movies to my car computer over it and it seems like im on wired.
peace.

the majority of wireless routers have 4 ports in the back so if you do get it and find that your having problems with games its not a total loss, you can just plug in a cable!
im a netgear man, never had a problem with any netgear stuff after about 4 years of using all different products, including wireless routers and access points

I have a D-link DI-614+ and I play games on-line all of the time. I have both my wifes Notebook and my PC hooked up to the wireless and we both play UT2004 and we have no problems. I would sugjest you go and buy a Pre-N router and a couple of Pre-N network cards. I hear they are very fast at transfering data.
I'm a big fan of Linksys, in particular the WRT54G (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124010) . I currently have one set up as a wireless access point since I already had a router/DSL modem combo in my network (just turned off the DHCP server). I have two computers with wireless cards and one that's wired directly into the WRT54G. Works beautifully.
As far as wireless adapters, I've had this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833130115) USB wireless adapter for a few weeks and it has totally exceeded my expectations. Good solid connections constantly. If you're looking for something cheap I highly recommend it.

Thanks to david, I changed the setting, and now my router(smc2804wrbp) hasn't disconnect from the ISP since...wireless is great as well, so I take back my claim about this router and recommend it.
