WHOA, ROASTY!

You better stick that under a fridge to get that mofo cooler!

No, but seriously a better HSF (Heat Sink Fan Combo) or better TIM (Thermal Interface Material) such as AS2 (Arctic Silver II) would solve your temp problems.

Sorry about the abbriviations, just making sure you get what they mean.

I will swear down that if you spend an afternoon and stick a 92 or 120 mm blowhole in the top of that case (cost you about £15-20 all out) you will see a reduction or two. Its no good blowing hot air back onto the heatsink, and you end up with pockets of stagnant hot air just lazing round the mobo. Get a Tasiol heatsink/fan, some arctic silver, and a couple case fans. Wheeee.

Welcome to the Forum. I had temps like that with my stock HSF before I started Water cooling. As for your problem, a good HSF, Arctic silverII, and case fans come to mind

Which ASUS board was reporting the temps wrong?......

Try using other programs like MBM5, Sandra or VCool which i really recommend!
it'z a coolin program and it displays the temp of ur mobo and cpu on the task bar

A new heatsink and fan is what you need dgrumpy16, here are a few of my favourites!::

Thermaltake Volcano 6cu & VolcanoII
Global Win CAK38
Thermalright SK6
Swiftech MC462A
Millenium Glaciator 1 & and the new Glaciator 2!!

Try one of these and some arctic silver 2 this will cool your chip down!!

Volcano 6CU+ you mean. The regular one only has a 4500 RPM fan, the + one has a 7000 RPM fan

To cool your CPU it is a combination of a lot of little things that works rather than just one magic bullet. I recommend -

1)A decent Heat Sink and Fan
2)Lap the heatsink to 1500 grit paper so that the bottom is mirro smooth.
3)A good thermal paste like artic silver
4)Case air exchange....You need to get cool air in and hot air out. Most cases work best with an bottom front mounted fan sucking it and another fan on the top/rear of the case blowing out.
5)Don't over look the video card as a heat source. My video card is running at 58 C under overclocked load while my CPU is only 32 C (water cooled) at 1400 Mhz.

Just adding fans will not solve your problems. I had 8 fans in my case before I went water cooled....No real improvement just lots of noise!!!. More fans does not equal better cooling but well placed fans do cool much better than just adding fans. Try 120 mm fans running at less than 12 volts for good air movement and low noise.
