A long time ago, I had my music folder shared over a network so that I could move some stuff to my laptop. Not wanting anyone else on the network to have access, I unchecked that "simple file sharing" box and set up some permissions for the folder. Unfortunately, everything's been a bit weird after that. I finally (after battling Windows from the Administrator account) got the ownership, etc. to the point where I could modify everything like I wanted to. My rig sorta died a little bit after that, and I'm moving to a P4 setup. I'm a little worried that once I change rigs and reinstall Windows, I'll be locked out of all that information. Do I need to get my old install up and running, then change permissions?

After moving the HDD (which contains the folder or directory you need to access) to your new rig, you should be able to take ownership of the folder or directory in question without any problem. The following MSKB articles may be of some help to you...
