Umm...by hand would probably be ALOT faster then with a tiny little Drimel. You can buy attachments for drills and stuff that sand but doing by hand would be the best for me I think. You can avoid mistakes better that way I think, at least for the finishing work.

I tried by hand and it took me hours and now my arm aches!!
I tried with an electric sander which wasn't very good either I can just plod along but I would love to have an easier way!

Might A Coarser Grit Paper be a good idea??

What you start off with? I used 220 to just take down the real bad spots on my case. Then went to 320 and then 420. Then primered and went from there. If you are going for the chrome look then just use 220 or even 180 to take it down to the bare metal. Then just keep moving up grains until you get it till you like it.

Case modding dudes,

Just but a black and decker random orbit sander and sand er from fine to ultra fine..and then by hand with 600 grit.

Yeah but I go past 600 grit. All the way to 2000. Getting ready to sand another case down. Not sure if I want to go for just the metallic mirror shine or paint it.

I used a DA Air sander to score the surface, then an Orbital Air sander w/ 320 to take it down to the metal.

I used a 220 to get the white paint off but I think the paint was on very thick and it doesn't want to come of easily I'll get some new pads for my elecy sander and see if that helps,

thanx

Am I the only one who found buying metallic silver car body spray paint and dancing it upon the white surfaces of the case gave the same effect?

Try starting the sanding with a low grit such as 80. This will take the paint off rather fast. You should still switch to a higher grit when you are farther down.
On a side note a sand blaster would do it realy quickly.

Sand Blasting sounds good but not for me I'll get some low grit!!

I could have so much fun with a sand blaster.

Ive never sanded my case but I would think a belt sander would work quite well
