8IPE1000-G problems?

Hi,

Today i just bough an Gigabyte 8IPE1000-G locally, since i wanted to put another system back together using parts i had laying around.
Motherboard works fine, but after i install windows, (after the restart, be4 finalizing the install and such). The board has trouble getting past the screen where it usually says boot from cd or any msg like that. It just cant get past it , could it possibly be my hd? Its a Hitachi Deskstar (80gig, 2meg) Its set as master (of course), i also tired no jumpers and so on.
I tried everything which i could think of.

did you try to set the hdd as in another ide channel? if that doesnt work, is there another hdd that you can test it with? hitachi "deathstar" is known to be terrible and have a high rate of failure.
